What is Facial Yoga?

Facial yoga is the trending practice that claims to maintain your beauty, naturally. It is a series of exercises that promise to do for your face what yoga does for your body: relax and tone muscles. Facial yoga rejuvenates your face within minutes and brightens it up.

Proponents of facial yoga say that it can relax your face, which ultimately smoothes those tension-filled expressions we make every day without even realizing it. And just relaxing those usually contorted facial muscles can give you a natural face lift.

Relaxing the facial muscles, especially where we hold tension -- like the jaw, brow, and forehead -- can counteract the wrinkle, causing grimacing we do on a daily basis. Since the muscles on our faces can't lift weights or go on the treadmill, when you apply pressure with your fingertips or make certain facial expressions, you're toning and strengthening the muscles.

The exercises work the hypodermis or the lower layer of the skin, the dermis or the middle layer and the epidermis or the upper layer. By working all these layers correctly, it will increase the blood circulation, allowing more oxygen and more nourishment to reach the cells of the skin. The result is a clear, healthy complexion with a beautiful glow which has fewer toxins and has a better ability to absorb moisture.

The techniques are also designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the middle layer of the skin -- giving you a smoother, suppler, tighter-looking skin.

But some plastic surgeons and dermatologists say that facial yoga is absolute nonsense. The earlier you start facial yoga, the earlier you'll get wrinkles. That’s because you don't get wrinkles from loss of elasticity in your muscles; you get wrinkles in your skin. And repetitive movement creates creases in the skin. It's like folding a piece of paper.

Well, what do you think? Worth a shot?
